Mental Health in the workplace
How to cope at work As we know, one in five people in the workplace experience a mental health condition. Stigma and lack of mental health awareness in the workplace persists as barriers to equality. FunctionWise would like to share 9 tips on how to cope at work if suffering from a mental health condition: 1. Acknowledge change in your behaviour – taking longer to complete routine tasks, having difficulty communicating with co-workers, and feeling the need to call in sick more frequently) 2. Make a to-do list – to stay on track of tasks. 3. Take frequent breaks from your desk – every 45 – 60 minutes and prevent digital fatigue. 4. Avoid workplace gossip – Venting about problems with a co-worker can be healthy as long as the conversation is done directly with that person and not third parties. Vent with caution. 5. Avoid taking on too much. 6. Set small, manageable goals – setting manageable goals can help break down big tasks into smaller ones so the work doesn’t feel so daunting. 7. Identify triggers – by keeping a journal of the things that have led to stress in order to identify them. 8. Get help– FunctionWise can help those struggling with anxiety and depression by training or developing the tools they need to cope with their stressful workplace. 9. Don’t feel ashamed- you are not alone. One out of five working adults reported having experienced mental health signs and symptoms. |
